SRM X-Power Direct – The Pedal for Maximum Efficiency
The SRM X-Power Direct Pedal is the next step toward optimal cycling efficiency. Its innovative pedal and cleat design reduces stack height and increases the contact surface between shoe and pedal, delivering gains in power efficiency and overall control of the bike.
This is done by breaking the tradition of conventional clipless pedal design and increasing the length of the pedal as well as repositioning the cleat screws, to make room for the spindle. As a result, the new cleat can be only 1 mm thin above the spindle, where it counts!
This brings the overall stack height to only 9.7 mm including cleat. The advantages of this 6 mm reduction over a standard stack height are many, and we are only beginning to understand the full potential for efficiency improvements.
SRM X-Power Direct
Key Benefits:
- Ultra-low stack height: Only 9.7 mm including cleat – 6 mm lower than standard designs.
- Improved power transfer: Our first tests indicate that lowering the distance between the sole of the foot and the center of force generation (spindle) reduces undesired shear forces and thus improving power efficiency.
- Aerodynamic position: Riders can lower saddle and cockpit by 7–10 mm, depending on their biomechanics. Smaller frontal area = less drag.
- Perfect for shorter cranks: The trend for ever shorter cranks has one big drawback: Saddles need to be higher to not overextend the foot at a 6 o´clock position. Changing to the SRM X-Power Direct Pedal, compensates the negative effects a higher seating position would have on the rider’s center of gravity.
- Enhanced control: The large 1653 mm² pedal contact surface provides a more connected feeling with the bike. Together with the lower center of gravity of the seating position, this improves handling and stability for corners and descents.
